Lunch at Sarabeth's

あのSarabeth'sがウエストチェスター郡にやってきた～♪
友人からお誘いを受け、早速ランチしてきました。
「NYの朝食の女王」という名で有名なレストランのようですが、極めてフツーの店構え。
場所もロード＆テイラーの３階だし・・・
お洒落サラベスの雰囲気は味わうことはできませんでしたが、クラブ・ケーキはとても美味しかったです。

"Lunch at Sarabeth's"
I had no idea that Sarabeth's had opened a store here in Westchester until my friend asked me out for lunch. So we went to check it out. To tell you the truth, I was a bit disappointed in their decor, nothing gramourous, no "Sarabeth's-feel" at all, very plain and rather dull. Even though we couldn't even kid ourselves that we were in the city having a fancy lunch date, we were very pleased with thier crab cake. It was plump, moist, and with lots of craby flavor. I only wish they would beautify thieir restaurant to live up to their name of "Breakfast Queen of NY."

Park Avenue Winter

NYレストラン・ウィーク第２弾です。
数年前から気になっていた「Park Ave Winter」に行ってきました。
レストランの名前と内装が四季によって変化するらしいです。
とてもお洒落なコンセプトですよね～。
店内はモダンでありながら、枯れ枝などの素朴な素材をとり入れた感じが素敵でした。
前菜はホタテのサンドイッチ。
想像していたものとはかなり異なり、アメリカ人が好みそうなこってり系のものでした。
ホタテは美味しかったのですが、かりかりパンとの相性はイマイチだったような気がします。
友人が注文したスモーク・サーモンとビーツのサラダがとても美味しかったです。
面白い食材の組み合わせがとても気に入り、早速自分流にリクリエイトしてみました。
こちらは来週から再スタートする友人たちとのお料理会で紹介する予定です。
メインはめずらしくチキン。
ジューシーに焼かれたチキンと根セロリのピュレがグッド・マッチ。
でも友人が選択したクリーミーなパスタの方がベター・チョイスでした。
デザートは２人そろってスパイス・チョコレート・ケーキ。
まぁ普通に美味しかったです。
ビックリするような感動は少なかったものの、お腹いっぱい食べさせてもらいお得感バッチリのランチでした。

"Park Avenue Winter"
I have always loved the concept of this restaurant. They change their name and the inside decor every season. Interesting, right? The entire restaurant was decorated in a "winter" theme: white, twinkly lights, bare tree branches, etc. It was very lovely. Even though the food didn't wow me that much, it was pretty good. I must admit that I may have had chosen the wrong dishes because I liked the smoked salmon and beet salad and the pasta dish that my friend had ordered. We liked the salad so much that I decided to recreate it my own way. I came pretty close, and it turned out good, I think. The amazing salad really inspired me, so I am very glad that we went to Park Avenue. Would I go back? Maybe for another restaurant week sometime.

truffles

なんちゃってトリュフです。
チョコレート・ケーキ作ろうと湯煎にかけたチョコレートが上手く溶けず、
泥のような醜い姿に・・・ああああ～大失敗。
そのまま捨てようと思ったのですが、手でコロコロしてみたらトリュフっぽく大変身。
ヴァローナのカカオ・パウダーでドレスアップさせたらホンモノ風に。
食感は固めでしたが、お味はまあまあOKでした。
バレンタイン・デーもそろそろだし、本格的なトリュフ作りに挑戦してみようかしら？

"truffles"
These are not real truffles. I was in a process of making a chocolate & almond cake and was trying to melt the chocolate pieces. Something went wrong, and the chocolate turned to an ugly mud-looking mess! Urrrg.... I thought of throwing it away entirely but decided to roll them into small balls. They shaped up nicely and came out looking like truffles. After sprinkling them with Valrhona cocoa powder, they look like the real things!

Cafe Boulud 002

只今冬のレストラン・ウィーク開催中です。
夏のRWで訪れて以来大ファンになってしまった「Cafe Boulud」で夫Sとランチ～。
前菜はカリフラワー・スープとFlukeのカルパッチョを選択しました。
どちらも文句なしの美味しさ～。
メインのケイジャン風グルーパーのソテーは、思ったより味付けが濃く辛めでした。
仔牛胸肉のワイン煮はとろ～り柔らかく美味。
付け合せのクリーミーな根セロリが特に気に入りました。
いつか自分流に真似してみようと思います。
最後のデザートも期待を裏切られることはなく、とても美味しかったです。
マイヤー・レモン・カードの優しい甘味と爽やかな酸味のバランスが絶妙。
夫Sが選んだ洋梨入りのダーク・チョコ・ムースも絶品。
さすが有名フレンチ・シェフのダニエル・ブールー氏です。
今回も美味しい感動をたくさん楽しませて頂きました～。

"Cafe Boulud"
Finally! I was able to revisit my favorite restaurant. I went there for lunch with my husband this time, and our experience was top notch from entry to departure. The service was impeccable, and the food was superb. We were especially blown away by their cauliflower soup and desserts. I only wish that they offered a restaurant week menu all the time.

yoga+healthy lunch

昨年末から「ヨガ＋ヘルシー・ランチ」のコラボ・イベントを企画していました。
先日やっと実現～。
Kさんをわが家へお招きし、友人たちと心地よくリラックス・ヨガを楽しみました。
身体が気持ちよくなった後は、みんなでランチ・タイム。
女性の健康には欠かせないビーツや、身体を温めたり清めたりしてくれる食材を使ったメニューを考えてみました。
*玄米ごはん（玄米50％＋押し麦25％＋雑穀25％）
*体を温めるほかほかスープ（長ねぎ、にんにく、生姜、ニラ、しいたけ、えのき、豆腐）
*大根ステーキとミックスきのこのソテー（大根、ネギ、きのこいろいろ）
*ひじきのさっぱりサラダ（ひじき、人参、枝豆、玉葱）
*ロースト・ビーツ
*茹でインゲン
〆のおデザは体に良さそうな黒豆茶風味のソイ・ミルク・ゼリー。
甘さ控えのクリームと、今年初めて煮てみた黒豆をちょこんと添えてみました。
いつも「超簡単」とか「スピーディー」なお料理ばかりしている私ですが、じっくり時間をかけて煮込む豆料理の美味しさに感動。
たまには「時間をかけて丁寧に料理する」ことも必要だなぁ～と実感しました。
このゼリーは友人たちにも好評だったので又作ってみようと思います。
心身共に綺麗になろう！と新春特別企画で試してみた「ヨガ＋ランチ」イベントですが、体も心もすっきりして気持ちがよかったので、機会があったらまたやってみようと思います。

"yoga+healthy lunch"
The idea of collaborating with my friend to have a "healthy" event in the beginning of year was cooking in my head for a while. I invited a few my friends over for a yoga lesson and healthy lunch. We enjoyed a relaxing yoga class taught by our favorite yoga instructor and had a healthy lunch together afterwards. I came up with the menu and prepared a healthy meal; brown rice, veggie soup, roasted beets, sea vegetable salad, steamed green beans, and Daikon steak with sautéed mushrooms. For the dessert, I served black bean tea flavored panna cotta. I infused soy milk with roasted black bean tea to give a subttle aroma and a black bean flavor. I decorated it with fresh cream and cooked sweet black beans. It was definitely different but very delicious! We all felt great that afternoon and hope that we can do something like this again soon.
