New Leaf

ランチはクロイスターズ近くにある「New Leaf」と決めていたのですが、オープンまで少し時間があったのでFort Tryon Park内を少し散策することにしました。
公園内には丁寧に手入れされた花壇と遊歩道がありました。
ジョージ・ワシントン橋を背景に素敵な「春」を演出。
眩しい新緑と爽やかな花の香りに囲まれて思わず幸せ顔に。
こんな素敵なお散歩コースを私と友人で二人占めなんて贅沢過ぎ～。
ゆっくり気持ちよくリフレッシュした後は「New Leaf」でランチ・タイム。大きな窓の側のテーブル席に座ることができました。
かなりシンプルなメニューの中からグリルド・サーモンとレモン・ビネグレットのサラダを選択。
サーモンの焼き加減は最高、お味の方は残念ながらごく普通・・・。
美術館の近くにはこのレストランしかないからか、お値段は高めの設定でした。
なのでデザートはパス。
ライまで戻ってル・パン・コティディアンでお迎えの時間までお茶しました。
目の保養バッチリ、心の栄養も満タンとなり大満足な一日でした。

"New Leaf"
We already had a plan to have lunch at New Leaf right by the Cloisters. Since we got there a few minutes before they open, my friend and I decided to take a stroll in the park. Oh, my! We had no idea how beautiful For Tryon Park was! It has a spectacular view of the Hudson River and the GW Bridge. The spring flowers were blooming, and the aroma was just heavenly. The restaurant was also located within the park. We sat at a table by the big iron window. The atmospher was great, but unfortunately the food was not. The salmon was grilled perfectly, but everything else was just OK. Even though our lunch didn't turn out to be as great as what we were hoping for, our entire day was just what we needed. Our soul and mind got a deep cleansing, and we felt so refreshed and totally satisfied at the end of the day.

The Cloisters

メトロポリタン美術館の別館「The Cloisters・クロイスターズ」に行ってきました。
中世ヨーロッパの建築と美術品を収蔵した美術館で、クロイスターとは回廊のことです。
こちらの建物のほとんどは、12世紀から15世紀のフランスの修道院の廃墟などを集めて再建されたものだそうです。大理石の柱一本一本に凝った装飾が施されています。
チャペルや回廊に囲まれた中庭にいるだけで中世にタイムスリップしたような気分。小学生くらいの子供たちも見学に来ていました。
熱く子供たちに語りかけていたガイドさんの説明を私も少し盗み聞き・・・
館内には中世ヨーロッパの作品がいろいろ展示されてありますが、一角獣・ユニコーンの物語を描いた７枚のタペストリーは特に有名。
数百年前の織物とは信じられないほど保存状態も良くてピックリ。
色合いもシックでとても素敵でした。
ずっと訪れてみたかったクロイスターズ。新緑の時期にこれてよかったです。
NYにいながらヨーロッパの古い歴史に触れることができたことにも感動～。
ウェストチェスターから車で30分ほどの距離のところなので、次回は紅葉の季節にでも遊びに行ってみようと思います。

"Cloisters"
It is a must see! I have to agree that this museum is a hidden gem of NYC. What I loved the most was the architecture. I truly felt like I was in a 12th century European cloister! Strolling through the gardens and overlooking the Hudson River was fantastic. Even though I am not a big fan of medieval history, I still appreciated the wonderful display of religious art work from all over Europe. Highly recommended!

春のお料理＋ランチ会

この薄紫色のお花を店頭で見かけると「春だなぁ」を感じます。
今年もライラックの綺麗な時期に、春のお料理＋ランチ会を開くことができました。
テーブル・セッティングはラスティックなファーム風にしてみました。
以前メイン州の古材木屋さんで購入した古い板がチャームポイントです。ナプキン・リングはパッキング・タグにちょっと手を加えて作ったもの。
今回はチャージャーなしのラフなセッティングで。
お食事はさっぱり春メニュー。
前菜はハニーデュー・メロンのカクテルとプロシュート・スティック。苺が主役のグリーン・サラダ。
苺とバルサミコ酢で作ったシンプルなビネグレットがお気に入り。
春→イースター→うさぎ→人参・・・あまりにも単純過ぎ?
スープはキャロット・スープ。
ストウブのオーバル・ココット、初デビューです。メインはチキン・マルベラ。
ルバーブ好きな私は、毎年なんとな～く新しいルバーブ・レシピに挑戦しています。
今年の苺とルバーブのクランブル・ケーキは大好評でした。
友人Eは「ニューヨークで食べたデザートで一番！」とまで言ってくれました。
お世辞半分でもとても嬉しいひと言でした。ありがとう～。

"Spring Lunch Party"
It has been a while now, but I invited some of my friends over for a spring lunch party. I love throwing together menu ideas and table setting ideas in my head, and it is so fun to see everything come together at the end. With this spring menu, my favorites are the spring green salad with marinated strawberries in balsamic vinegar and the rhubarb and strawberry crumble cake. I hope everyone had a good time. I certainly did! Thank you all for coming!

Jean Georges

この夏親しい友人が日本へ帰国してしまいます・・・
JB幼稚園時代からの友人たち4人と彼女を囲んで、Jean Georges・ジャン・ジョルジュにてゴージャスなランチ会を楽しみました。
今までニューヨークで一緒に頑張ってきたことを祝って6人で乾杯～。
お食事は奮発して春のテイスティング・メニューを選びました。

*avocado and asparagas
*steamed skate with spring vegetables*rack of lamb with fiddlehead greens
*spring tasting dessert

どのお料理も申し分なく美味しかったです。
創作フレンチらしく和食材をアクセントとして取り入れたお料理が多く、日本人のお口にも合うライン・アップでした。
綺麗な盛りつけも素敵で目にも美味しい～。
繊細な味つけとお上品サイズで数多くのお料理が楽しめるのも◎。
友人たちとお喋りしながらニューヨーク・トップレベルの食事を満喫することができ、とっても贅沢な時間を過ごすことができました。
10年後に同じ場所でReunionっていうのはどう？

"Jean Georges"
To celebrate our time together in NY, my friends and I went to Jean Georges for a super fancy lunch. As one of the top French restaurants in NYC, it was a perfect place for a special occasion. It is so sad that one of my very close friends is going back to Japan this summer, and we wanted to experience something extraordinary together. So she picked Jean Georges! What a place! Their tasting menu was out of the world. It was totally amazing. Everything tasted so fresh, simple yet elegant. I must say that it is definitely an experience worth splurging on. It is that good.

teacher appreciation week

「Teacher Appreciation Week」とは先生に感謝の気持ちを伝えよう～という週です。
JBは裏庭に咲いているスズランの花束とカードを持って登校しました。
担任の先生にとても喜んでもらえたようで、JBも先生からのサンキュー・カードを嬉しそうに読んでいました。
スズランの爽やかな香りと共にちょっと幸せな気分になれた一日でした。

"teacher appreciation week"
For Teacher Appreciation Week, JB took a card and some lilies of valley from our back yard to his teacher. It sounds like that the teacher was touched by his little gift. In return, the thank you card that JB received from the teacher made him giggle and happy. Sending love and appreciation is a good thing because everybody who is involved gets happy at the end. It is too bad that we don't do enough of it....
