teacher appreciation week

「Teacher Appreciation Week」とは先生に感謝の気持ちを伝えよう～という週です。
JBは裏庭に咲いているスズランの花束とカードを持って登校しました。
担任の先生にとても喜んでもらえたようで、JBも先生からのサンキュー・カードを嬉しそうに読んでいました。
スズランの爽やかな香りと共にちょっと幸せな気分になれた一日でした。

"teacher appreciation week"
For Teacher Appreciation Week, JB took a card and some lilies of valley from our back yard to his teacher. It sounds like that the teacher was touched by his little gift. In return, the thank you card that JB received from the teacher made him giggle and happy. Sending love and appreciation is a good thing because everybody who is involved gets happy at the end. It is too bad that we don't do enough of it....

morning stroll

雨上りの朝、ハーバー・アイランド・パークでお散歩。
平日の朝だったからか公園内はとても静かでした。
ピークは過ぎてしまっていたけれど、まだまだ綺麗だった八重桜。
ふわふわ、ひらひら、しっとりとしたピンク色の花びらがなんとも愛らしい～。
JBの野球やサッカーの試合でよく訪れる公園ですが、ひとりでわざわざ遊びにくるのはこの桜の季節だけ。
そう言えば2年前も同じことしてました。それも4月19日に。
JB幼稚園で4月生まれのお誕生日会があった日だったなぁ・・・ 懐かしい～。
今年の春は訪れが早く雨も少ない為「春」をたくさん満喫しています。
草花の香り、鳥のさえずり、そよそよ心地よい風・・・
春の惠、自然の美しい恵みへの感謝の気持ちでいっぱいになったお散歩でした。

"morning stroll"
I often visit Harbor Island Park to watch JB's baseball or soccer games throughout the year but hardly go there by myself. However, spring, especially during the cherry blossom season, is different and very special. I patiently wait for a perfect opportunity to go see these pink delicate fluffy flowers. So lovely, aren't they? They totally bring joy and peace to my heart. I am so thankful for the beauty of spring!

本日のティー・タイムは友人モコモコ邸にて。
ナチュラル色のクリームｘダーク・ブラウンを軸に、アンティーク・グッズなどで丁寧に飾られた癒し系の素敵なおうちカフェです。
日々育児バトルでお疲れの友人が用意してくれた手作りスイーツ。
しあわせ～な気分にさせてくれました。
心身隅々まです～っと染み込んでいくような心温まる甘味。
彼女の作るお菓子はすべてマジカル。
いつもほんわか優しく美味しいスイーツで私を癒してくれるのです。
辛くてたくさん頑張っている今、癒してあげなくてはならなかったのは私の方なのに・・・
今日は本当にありがとう。

"cafe moco"
Cafe Moco is my friend's house. I love her style, natural & vintage. It is warm, inviting, cozy and always makes me feel at home. Today she invited my friend and me over for a cup of tea. She has two little kids but somehow found some free time to make some beautiful sweets for us. We were so grateful! Aren't they colorful and so pretty? It was super delicious, too! Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Columbus Circle

先週木曜日からはじまったスプリング・リセスが終わり、また明日から学校です。
春休み中に友人と子供たちを連れてマンハッタンへ遊びに行ってきました。
大きく広がる青空と芽吹き始めた木々がとても綺麗な一日でした。予定より早く到着したので、タイム・ワーナー・センター内にあるBouchon Bakeryで
大好きなクロワッサンを頬張りながら軽く休憩。
男子3名(特にJB)は、美味しいものよりロビーにある巨大な銅像二体にひどく反応してましたけどね～。
この後は地下鉄に乗って自然史博物館へ向かいました。

"Columbus Circle"
Spring recess is over, and JB goes back to school tomorrow. During the break, my friend and I took our boys to the city. Spring is a very beautiful time in NYC. The new leaves are just coming in and spreading a fresh coat of green on each and every tree. So refreshing! Our main purpose for this outing was to visit the American Museum of Natural History. Since we arrived earlier than planned, we first walked around in TWC and had some treats at Bouchon Bakery before heading over to the ANHM.

Eight is great!

月曜日で8歳になりました。
誕生日のたびに子供の成長の早さを実感。
10年後には大学生になってしまうJB・・・考えるだけでも恐ろしいです。
毎日毎日を大切にしなくては。
今年一年も健康に楽しく過ごせませますように～。
私の目標は、もう少ししっかり身の回りのことができるようになるよう指導してあげること。
それもなるべく怒鳴らずに・・・
お誕生日前の先週末は、JBのリクエストに応えてこの桜の木の下でピクニックをしました。
自宅の庭でお花見ができるなんて思ってもいなかったのでちょっぴり得した気分～。

"Eight is great!"
JB turned 8 last Monday. I can't believe how fast he is growing! It is hard to imagine that he will be leaving for college in 10 years. How scary is that! I just wish that life will slow down a little bit so that we can savor each moment every day. I hope that he will have another successful year with good health and full of fun days!

play ball!

リトル・リーグ開幕～。
プリ・シーズンは今日のゲームを含めて11試合。
これから6月中旬まで練習やら試合やらで忙しくなりそうです。
ちょっとここで私たちの住むタウンのリトル・リーグの説明を・・・・
わが地区では野球の年齢は学年別ではなく、5月1日から4月30日の誕生日で分けられています。
来週で8歳になるJBは、トライアウトを経て8歳～10歳のグリーン・リーグに入ることができました。
グリーン・リーグと昨年のリーグとの大きな違いはキッズ・ピッチであること。
1イニングバッター9人までというルールはありますが、一試合マックス2時間と随分長くなります。
本日の初試合、JBチームは後攻。
コーチがプレイヤーの名前と守備i位置を読み上げていきました。
JBはな、なんと先発ピッチャー。
それまでスタンドのベンチに座っていた私ですが、それ以降は金網の真後ろに立ってじーっと試合観戦しました。
8歳以下の子は45球までしか投げられないというリミットがあるため、JBは2イニングで36球投げ、無安打・無四球・無失点というまずまずのスタート。
バッティングの方は2打席で1内野ゴロ、1四球でした。
残念ながら試合は10対4でJBチームの負け。
チーム一丸となってガンガン勝ち星を増やしていこう～的な雰囲気は全くなく、少々物足りなさもあったりするのですが、3人のコーチは共にとてもやさしく穏やかな感じ。
とりあえずは、JBがチームメイトと楽しく自分の力が発揮できる良いシーズンとなるよう応援していきたいと思います。

"play ball!"
Baseball season is finaly here! JB made it to the Green League (kid-pitch) this season and had his first game tonight. It was very exciting that JB got to be the starting pitcher at an opening game. Sweet! He did not look nervous at all and did an awesome job. JB pitched 2 innings, threw 36 pitches, no runs, no hits, no walks. A couple of kids reached base on errors. I was so nervous for him that I had to stand right by the fence during the entire game. It was too bad that JB's team lost at the end, but it was fun to watch a very confident JB on the baseball field. I am looking forward to this baseball season and hope that his team do well together.

spring table

黄色と白で春のおもてなし～。
はじめて小さなスイセンを主役にしたテーブル・デコに挑戦してみました。
スイセンはStop&Shopで鉢植え3つを$10で購入。
2つは鉢から外し、球根丸見えのまま大胆に大きなガラスのハリケーンへ。
春のお花畑に集まる蝶々は、ナプキン・リング風にちょこんとナプキンの上にのせました。
実はこの日、バック・ナンバーのお料理＋ランチ会だったのです。
メニューは昨年の冬に紹介した「ホワイト」でした。
ちょっとしたハプニングもありましたが、今回のお料理会もとても楽しかったです。
さて次回の新メニューは何にしようかしら～。

"spring table"
Daffodils are not ranked on top of my flower list, but I really liked these small delicate yellow flowers when I saw them at the store. I bought 3 pots and decorated my table with them. The color combination of yellow and white gave a feel of early spring, and the table turned out quite lovely. My friends who came over for a cooking/lunch party liked it as well. I just can't wait for the real spring to come and visit us!

Housing Works Bookstore Cafe

友人のブログで紹介されていたSOHOにある古本屋さん。
とても興味があったので、読書が好きな夫SとJBと一緒に行ってきました。
JBは子供コーナーから好きな本を見つけ、空いていたテーブルにて読書タイム。店内はビンテージ感たっぷりでとてもお洒落～。
アンティーク調のライト、シーリング・ファン、重厚感のある壁パネル、天井までびっしりと並んだ古本・・・どこか懐かしく温かみのある雰囲気が気に入りました。店内奥にはカフェ・コーナーもあるので、気になる本のページをぱらぱらめくりながらひと休みするのもいいかも。
ウェストチェスターにこんな素敵なブック・カフェがあったら通ってしまいそうです。

"Housing Works Bookstore Cafe"
What a gem! I found an article about this charming used bookstore on my friend's blog and took my husband and JB there. I love the atomosphere there. It has an old library feel. It is cozy and sort of whimsical. JB and I found a few books that we liked. We took a seat at a table and fliped through them. I wish there were a store like this in Westchester. I would definitely be a regular there!

we are back!

一週間のウィンター・リセスが終わり、明日からまた学校です。
休みの間はユタのグランマのおうちへ遊びに行っていました。
週末に入りやっとNYタイムに体が慣れてきたところです。
また明日から頑張らなくては～。

"we are back!"
JB had a winter break last week. We took an advantage of it and headed out to Utah and had an awesome time. Our bodies have been finally adjusted back to the EST, just in time for JB's school to start tomorrow. Must face the realities of life once again...

choco+pink

ずっとお休みしていた「お料理＋ランチ会」が再スタートしました。
今回はバレンタイン・デーを意識してちょっとロマンチック風に。
私の中で「バレンタイン＋ロマンチック」なイメージは、チョコレート＆ピンク＋Paris。
キラキラものをちょっとプラスしたテーブル・コーディネイトにしてみました。
久しぶりにお友だちと美味しい時間を楽しむことができて幸せ～。

"Cooking+Lunch Party"
Cooking together with friends in my kitchen has finally resumed again! The theme this time was Valentine's Day. I decorated the table in chocolate and pink with a touch of bling. I also added a few Eiffel Towers for a romantic touch. I will update the details after organizing the pictures. Stay toned!
